The Cooley Gallery

The Cooley Gallery, located at 9 N King Street in Leesburg, VA, offers an assortment of classes for novice artists to initiate their creative spirit. Chris Cooley, who majored in Art Education at Utah State University, planned on becoming a high school art teacher after college. Instead, he embarked on a nine-season NFL career as a tight end for Washington in which he hauled in 429 receptions for 4,711 yards.

“Whether it be pottery, drawing or making my own concrete countertops, I just have this desire to continue to create. The idea of knowing I made a piece of art that someone uses and loves is amazing.” - Chris Cooley

Post-football, Cooley has re-discovered his passion for art education. From pottery to ceramics, clay and painting, The Cooley Gallery is an ideal resource for anyone seeking to gain expertise in basic artistic principles. Although the gallery is open to all prospective artists, athletes in particular will find a welcoming environment perfectly suited to fostering the conjunction between Art and Athletics.

Upcoming events at The Cooley Gallery:

  • Clay Hand-Building Class: Thursday, Aug. 2 from 6 - 9 p.m. Participants will learn to create both pots and sculpture forms. From pinched clay to flat slabs and coils, students will become familiar with the basic building blocks of clay forms.

  • Paint Night with Jenny Klug: Saturday, Aug. 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Trust your creative instincts and follow the professional artists instruction to fill your blank canvas however you see fit. This is not a paint-by-numbers or stay inside-pre-drawn lines sort of class; you will leave with your own personal masterpiece to display at home.

  • Paint Your Pet Night with Jenny Klug: Saturday, Aug. 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dubbed “Project Pet,” any animal lover can engage in this artistic experience regardless of prior knowledge. Follow the professional artists guidance to walk you through color mixing and paint techniques to get your beloved animal’s fur and features just right. At the end of the event, you’ll leave with a frame-worthy keepsake of your furry friend. All animals from dogs to iguanas are worthy subjects!

“Creating something every day is what makes me most happy … Art inspires me and I hope to show that enthusiasm to all of our gallery customers.”  - Chris Cooley
